New Parenthood Should Be Fun!

Your First Trimester – What to Expect in Canada

Congratulations – you’re pregnant! The first trimester (weeks 1–12) is full of changes. Here’s what you need to know as a Canadian expectant mom.

1. Book Your First Appointment
See a family doctor or walk-in clinic to confirm pregnancy and begin care with an OB or midwife (referrals may vary by province).

2. First Prenatal Visit
Usually between weeks 8–10:
– Blood work and urine tests
– Dating ultrasound
– Health history review

3. Symptoms
Nausea, fatigue, cravings, and breast tenderness are common. Call your doctor if symptoms are severe.

4. Healthy Habits
Eat small meals, drink water, and get gentle exercise. Avoid raw fish, deli meats, and excessive caffeine.

5. Plan Ahead
Research prenatal classes, start a pregnancy journal, and begin budgeting.

You’ve Got This: Take it one day at a time – help is always available.
