Canada offers generous leave benefits, but they can be tricky to navigate. Here’s what expectant parents need to know.

1. Leave Types
– Maternity Leave: up to 15 weeks for the birthing parent
– Parental Leave: up to 61 weeks, shared by both parents

2. How Much You’ll Get
– Standard EI: 55% of your earnings, up to ~$668/week
– Extended EI: 33%, up to ~$401/week

3. Eligibility
– At least 600 insurable hours in the last 52 weeks
– Reduced income of 40% or more

4. How to Apply
– Visit the Service Canada website
– Submit your Record of Employment (ROE)
– Provide due date or child’s birth info

5. Employer Benefits
Some employers offer top-ups — check your contract or ask HR.

Plan Ahead, Rest Easy: Knowing your options helps you focus on what matters most — your baby and your recovery.
